Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and its Significance

Technical Stuff

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is the process of improving your website’s organic position in search engine result pages. Result pages are generated by the search engine based on the keywords provided by the user. Organic results describe those that have not paid for their position; paid results (pay-per-click ads) can appear at the top, bottom, and maps view and are denoted by the text “Ad” in a bordered box next to the website link (Google). The first few top positions/results are usually reserved for these paid ads only.

SEO can include (but is not limited to) the following ranking factors:

  1. Mobile usability
  2. Website page speed
  3. High-quality content
  4. HTML coding optimizations
  5. Linking structure (inbound/outbound)
  6. Website layout and organization
  7. Valid code / no errors (HTML, CSS)
  8. Social Media signals
  9. Domain name and authority

What is SEO?

SEO is used to make your website show up in search engines. By default, whether the website is old or brand new, there is no guarantee on where it will appear in the searches (1st page, 50th page, etc.). Some searches will show billions of results. Google’s algorithms are designed to show the user the best results based on the “keywords” entered into the search bar. SEO gets your website better positions for a specific set of keywords. It usually works best for local searches.

Why Do I Need SEO?

SEO makes your website more visible to potential customers. SEO can be considered a form of digital advertising. A website’s position in a Google search usually determines the level of interaction. A user will most likely contact the first few results when searching for a product or service. If you are a plumbing contractor, you need SEO to appear on the first page, and receive those first few calls the customer makes when searching contractors. Get yourself some SEO and get all the customers!
